Abstract
Survey of Pharmaceutical Companies: Implementation of Health Services Research in GermanyA survey of 55 members of the BPI revealed that in their opinion Health Services Research is an important part of their own research activities. However, the companies also find the execution of Health Services Research studies to be a challenge. Reported reasons for this are deficits in knowledge about the potentials and limits of such projects. Furthermore, a lack of time and shortage of financial resources are also highlighted. As there is no universal consensus on standards and the data generated from Health Services Research studies are only considered to a low extent, the benefit from Health Services Research studies is assumed to be low.
The results of the survey show that there is a definite need for development of standard study protocols in terms of form, processes and content, before the implementation Health Services Research will receive a high priority by pharmaceutical companies. Still, the importance of Health Services Research from a business perspective is increasing.
