Rationing of healthcare can be essentially postponed if wasting of resources is identified, sanctioned and ultimately stopped.
The German healthcare system is excessively expensive as resources are wasted into unnecessary operations, interventions, diagnostics, and drugs, ‘Kuren’, administrative costs amongst others. It is estimated that the saving potential amounts to 20 – 25 % of the current healthcare budget. Rationing of healthcare supply seems inevitable in the light of the demographic revolution and innovation in medicine which will increase healthcare costs dramatically. However, the point in time at which rationing becomes mandatory can be postponed if all expenditures are critically checked for wasting aspects, and savings are realized.
